Aytür was born in Ankara in 1932. She received her Ph.D. in English Language and Literature from Ankara University in 1956. As a Fulbright grantee in 1965-66, she taught American Literature at Louisiana University. She served as Head of the Department of American Culture and Literature at Ankara University’s Faculty of Languages, History and Geography for many years. She translated a number of works of Henry James and William Faulkner into Turkish. She passed away in Ankara in 2017.
