He was born in Yozgat in 1958. He graduated from the Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering at the Middle East Technical University in 1979, and received his master’s degree from the same program two years later. Having completed his doctoral studies at Ohio State University where he went on a Fulbright scholarship, he was awarded with ElectroScience’s Best Dissertation Prize (1986). Altıntaş, who returned to Turkey in 1988 and started to work at Bilkent University, has pursued his research as visiting lecturer at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Technische Universität München and Concordia University. He served as the chairperson of Bilkent University Electrical-Electronics Engineering Department in 2005-2011, and entered the Parliament as Ankara deputy after the 2018 general elections.
