Ege was born on December 11, 1923 in Denizli. He graduated from Istanbul University’s Faculty of Medicine in 1948, and received orthopaedic and traumatology training at Columbia University in 1959. In 1961, he was appointed to Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) and Ankara University’s Medical School. As a Fulbright grantee in the 1967-1968 academic year, he was a visiting professor at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and the University of Southern California, and conducted research on reconstructive hand surgery. Ege received numerous awards and held various academic and administrative offices throughout his long career in medicine. He passed away in Ankara on June 8, 2017.
