Taşman was born on September 12, 1943 in Bolu. After graduating from Robert College, where he studied business administration and economics, he completed his master’s degree in business administration at Columbia University in 1968. He worked at Deloitte on Wall Street for two years and then settled in Phoenix, Arizona; he worked in a plastic company and became a partner there in 1983. The company grew 200 times under the leadership of Taşman and opened factories on several continents, until it was sold in 2005. Following the sale of the company, Taşman worked to establish a fund to provide aid to Turkey, and eventually pioneered the establishment of the Turkish Philantrophy Fund. Haldun Taşman was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which is presented annually to individuals who represent the diversity of Ellis Island’s immigrant experience.
