Baymur was born in Beirut in 1915. After graduating from the Pedagogy Department of the Gazi Education Institute, she received a master’s degree from the University of Chicago in 1953, and her Ph.D. in education from the University of Illinois in 1958. She was a member of the Ministry of National Education’s Board of Education and Discipline (1960-1964). In the 1962-63 academic year as a Fulbright scholar, she became a postdoctoral researcher in the field of psychological counseling and guidance at Boston University. Baymur was the founding chairperson of Hacettepe University’s Department of Psychology, and a pioneer in the field of psychological counseling. General Psychology (1972) is among her published works. She passed away in 2010.
